JOSEPH LAVACCA PT, DPT, OCS

Throughout my time as a PT I always wanted more. More for myself, and more for my patients. Through my experiences, time with mentors, countless continuing education courses, teaching around the world, and my own personal battle with depression, I began to question what I could actually do as a Physical Therapist, and perhaps more importantly, what I could do better as a human being.

I began to develop a style of care that centered around education, empowerment, and communication. It was there I discovered the importance of empathy and compassion, and how these tools were the biggest thing missing in my ability to help people in the past. With the birth of my daughter in 2014, these thoughts and ideas became even more clear and helped me re-shaped my view on life and my career.

I started Strength in Motion Physical Therapy in 2018 with the goal of truly being able to deliver a patient centered model that was of the standards I, and patients, expected and deserved. My passions and clinical interests revolve around helping those in chronic pain, particularly of the lower back and lower extremity including hips, knees and ankles/feet.

Through utilization of education, lifestyle and behavior coaching, as well as techniques and systems such as Functional Range Conditioning/Functional Range Release, Kinstretch, RockTape, and Functional Movement/Selective Functional Movement Assessments, I am now proud to offer care the way it was meant to be received, and with one goal in mind - to keep you moving forward.

I offer massage therapy and energy therapy. I graduated from the Boulder College of Massage Therapy in 1991, so I have had many years to hone my skills in therapeutic massage, including sports, deep tissue, trigger point, neuromuscular, cupping, healing touch and Reiki. I eagerly embrace new learning in the ever expanding field of bodywork. Some of my clients are patients of the skilled chiropractors at THS and benefit from our collaborative efforts for improved health. I also welcome clients who are only seeking massage or energy work independent of chiropractic care. Clients have the option of warm stones and high quality essential oils in my massage at no extra cost. I also have a Masters degree in Counseling and enjoyed a career as a school counselor for 25 years. I look forward to meeting you and helping you feel good!

Dr. Emily Schilling began her career in the medical field at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she graduated with a double major in Neurology and Nutritional Science. From there, she continued on to receive her Doctorate of Chiropractic and Master’s in Functional Nutrition from Parker University in Dallas, TX.

Dr. Schilling has always enjoyed being athletic and has participated in a number of sports throughout her life. Some of these include track and field, volleyball, and gymnastics. Currently, she is heavily involved in the triathlon community and has competed in multiple half Ironmans and recently finished her first full Ironman in Wisconsin ‘22.

Given her participation in high level sports, she understands the need for quality assessments of pain, targeted exercises and care based on the individual. In specific, she places an emphasis on the lower extremity and gait patterns. After sustaining a number of running related injuries, she wanted to know not only why they kept occurring but also how to treat and ultimately prevent them. After years of research and continuation in the sport, she has a wealth of knowledge that she would love to share with you!

Apart from sports, Dr. Schilling also loves nutrition. Growing up as a type 1 diabetic, this was, and still is, her world. She is currently pursuing her license to become a Certified Nutrition Specialist. If you ever feel like chatting about race or training fueling recommendations, her door is always open!

No matter if you’re a weekend warrior or a professional level athlete; young or old; just starting out or years into a sport, Dr. Schilling is here to help!
